Ian Poulter will be pulled in two directions again in 2009 -- but for different reasons. Last year, he was bidding to make the European Ryder Cup team. This season, he'll be chasing the hefty bonuses for the FedExCup and the Race to Dubai.
A year ago, Poulter was criticized in his native England for opting to play in the first two events of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup rather than return home for the final Ryder Cup qualifying events on the European Tour. He missed the cut in both, but Captain Nick Faldo still made the flashy Brit one of his two picks. Another plus, Poulter had the necessary 15 events required for membership on the PGA TOUR.
Poulter was one of the bright spots for the Europeans, too. He was unbeaten, posting a 4-0-1 mark -- one of just two winning records on the team. Poulter also posted his best finish in a major in a solo second at the Open Championship thanks to a closing 69.
