MORE TOP 100 PLAYERS: BACK to Player No. 4 | FORWARD to Player No. 2 | Top 100 archive

Sergio Garcia will enter 2009 ranked No. 2 in the world, which speaks volumes about his progress. The Spaniard picked up his biggest victory to date at THE PLAYERS Championship in '08 and won twice on the European Tour. Garcia also came close to winning that elusive first major at the PGA, but he hit his approach at the 16th into the water. That runner-up finish was one of three in his final five starts he lost playoffs to Vijay Singh at The Barclays and Camilo Villegas at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. Look for Garcia to continue a full schedule on both sides of the pond. But he should have even more motivation in 2009 as the European Tour stages its inaugural Race to Dubai bonus competition similar to the FedExCup, where he finished third. -- Helen Ross
