Robert Allenby has to hope that he sheds his close-but-no-cigar persona in 2009. The talented Aussie may have had nine top-10s last year but he's still looking for his first victory since the 2001 season. Allenby finished fourth or better on five occasions in 2008. He was second twice, losing to Justin Leonard in a three-man playoff at the Stanford St. Jude Championship and finishing one stroke behind Dustin Johnson at the Turning Stone Resort Championship. Allenby, who won more than $3 million for the first time in his career, missed the cut in his first tournament of 2008 but then cashed checks in his next 28. International Presidents Cup Captain Greg Norman would be lucky to have such a money man on his team for the matches in October. -- Helen Ross

How Robert manages to escape victory as often as he does is baffling. But he is too good to be held down much longer.
