Zach Johnson's outlook for 2009 had to change dramatically when he won the Valero Texas Open last year. Up until that point, it had been a disappointing year for the 32-year-old from Iowa who wanted dearly to make the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Johnson had only posted one top-10 finish on TOUR before he came to Texas in October. Rounds of 62 and 64 on the weekend, though, put the Drake grad in the winners' circle for the fourth time in his career.
The 2007 Masters champion followed that performance with a tie for 10th in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He earned $1.6 million -- half at the Valero Texas Open -- to finish 53rd on the money list but was 131st in the FedExCup.
