TOURNAMENT RECAP: A year later, Fred Couples beat Hal Sutton's record of being the youngest player to win the tournament. The 24-year-old Couples matched Lee Trevino birdie for birdie over the final round and had the luxury of three-putting the 18th hole to win by one shot. His total of 277 beat Jerry Pate's 1982 TPC Sawgrass tournament record by three strokes.
