Wounded Warrior Backpacks and Transitional Care Packs: Backpacks filled with essential personal-care items, including comfortable clothes, toiletries, and calling cards, are delivered to severely wounded service members as they arrive at military trauma centers around the country. A smaller version of the Wounded Warrior Backpack, Transitional Care Packs are sent directly to Iraq and Afghanistan to provide immediate comfort during a warrior's relocation to a state-side military medical facility.
Benefits Counseling: Trained counselors work with warriors at their hospital bedside to provide guidance about government benefits available to individuals injured in the line of duty.
Family Assistance: Severe injuries can create a financial burden on a warrior's family. Basic necessities are subsidized for wounded service members' families during rehabilitative care, including housing, food, child care and transportation.
Advocacy: Advocacy efforts give wounded warriors a voice in local and national issues. Through WWP's efforts, the Wounded Warrior Bill was passed, giving severely injured service members a one-time insurance benefit of up to $100,000 to help their families during the days immediately following their injury.
Adaptive Sports: The Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project and WWP Outdoors involve healing warriors in adaptive sports and outdoor activities, helping them develop new opportunities for recreation and rehabilitation. Soldier Ride, a special adaptive cycling program, gets participants back on the road, teaming them up with adaptive bicycles in cities across America.
Career Enrichment: WWP's Warriors to Work (W2W) program offers support to injured service members looking for civilian employment. We work with participants individually during a job search, helping them connect with employers seeking qualified veterans.
Coping Support: Life is about more than physical survival, and WWP's Project Odyssey takes warriors into the wilderness for a week to learn coping and stress management strategies to recover from combat stress and post-traumatic stress disorder.
