ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The World Golf Foundation today announced that Cathy Harbin has been named to the position of Director, GOLF 20/20. Among other responsibilities, Harbin will provide administrative leadership to Get Golf Ready, a new adult player development program launched last month by GOLF 20/20. Harbin, 46, will assume her new duties effective Jan. 26, 2009. She will report to World Golf Foundation CEO Steve Mona.
Harbin currently serves as General Manager and Director of Leadership Development and Training for Honours Golf Company's two World Golf Village golf courses, The Slammer & Squire and The King & Bear, both in St. Augustine, Fla. She is a Class A PGA Master Professional and has earned the PGA General Manager Certification. Harbin is also a member of the LPGA and Club Managers Association of America.
"We are absolutely delighted to have a golf industry leader of Cathy's caliber join our World Golf Foundation team to direct the GOLF 20/20 initiative," said Steve Mona. "Cathy has outstanding leadership skills and understands in a very fundamental way how to provide beginners and experienced golfers alike with a meaningful connection to the game. She has been an active and involved participant in the GOLF 20/20 process since its launch in 2000.
"Cathy's extensive teaching experience and golf facility management expertise make her ideally suited to help us roll out Get Golf Ready, while also providing leadership to other GOLF 20/20 initiatives," Mona said.
Harbin has provided day-to-day leadership to the two World Golf Village properties since prior to their opening in June, 1997, first as Director of Golf with Scratch Golf Company and then as General Manager since June, 2000 when Honours Golf Company acquired the properties. Prior to assuming responsibility at The Slammer & Squire and The King & Bear, Harbin held a variety of teaching and management roles at American Golf Corporation facilities in Florida. Earlier in her career, Harbin served as assistant golf professional at facilities in Indiana and Florida.
Throughout her career, Harbin has earned a wide variety of industry honors for her accomplishments, including the "Growth of the Game" Award from the North Florida Section of the PGA, "Most Admired Golf Course Operators" Annual Award by Golf Inc. Magazine and "Woman of the Year" by Golf News Magazine. She is a graduate of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.
