PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- After eight years of service to the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour as a rules official, Ken Lindsay will retire on December 31.
Prior to joining the Champions Tour field staff in 2001, Lindsay was the general manager of Colonial Country Club in Jackson, Miss., for 30 years. During his time at that club, Lindsay worked to become a PGA Master Professional. A member of the Gulf States Section, Lindsay became a national officer with the PGA of America. He eventually served as the 30th President of the PGA of America in 1997-98.
"My career would not have been complete without having the opportunity to work for the PGA TOUR," Lindsay said. "I thoroughly enjoyed my experience as a rules official on the Champions Tour, working with many of the game's greatest players on a regular basis."
Lindsay is a member of the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame. In 1983, he was selected as the PGA Golf Professional of the Year. He was also chairman of the National PGA Rules Committee from 1984 to 1989, working with several current members of the Champions Tour Rules staff.
Lindsay was also the captain of the winning United States team at the 2000 PGA Cup Matches at Celtic Manor, Wales, and just recently served as captain of the American Junior Ryder Cup team that defeated the European team for the first time by a score of 22-2. At this year's Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club, he also was the rules official in the booth, working with Johnny Miller and Dan Hicks on the NBC telecast.
"Ken has devoted his life to the game of golf and we wish him well in his retirement," said Mike Stevens, President of the Champions Tour. "We have been fortunate to have had a man with his experience at our events and he's been a valuable asset to our organization."
Lindsay's wife, Janet, has been a Rules Official with the LPGA since 1994. His son, D. Michael Lindsay is a professor at Rice University and a published author.
Dillard Pruitt, a PGA TOUR rules official and former TOUR player, will replace Lindsay on the Champions Tour field staff beginning in 2009.
