Cameron Beckman began this week at 175th on the 2008 PGA TOUR money list, well outside the top 125 who earn a full exemption for 2009 and struggling just to finish within the top 150 who earn partial exemptions. How quickly things change -- Beckman walked away from Grayhawk Golf Club yesterday with a victory, $900,000 in winnings and an automatic two-year exemption on TOUR.
Although one of the shorter players on TOUR off the tee, Beckman was extremely accurate (46 of 56 fairways hit) and he excelled around the green. He ranked second in the field in scrambling (15 for 18) and third in putting (108 putts). Beckman is particularly adept when scrambling from 20-30 yards out -- he ranks fourth on TOUR in 2008 in this statistic (43 of 65) and was 3-for-3 from this range over the weekend.
