A total of 78 players made the cut at 2-under-par 138 on Friday. Last year the cut came at even-par 140.

Positive movers

Nick Flanagan. Several players had career rounds on Friday, including the 24-year-old Aussie. He shot a 7-under 63, which propelled him into a share of first with the first-round leader Richard S. Johnson.

Gavin Coles. He moved from a tie for 56th into a tie for third thanks to a superb 8-under 62. His impressive round included eight birdies and zero bogeys.

Jason Dufner. Another player with an extremely low round on Friday, Dufner made six birdies, one eagle and one bogey in his move up the ranks. He jumped from a tie for 75th into a tie for 7th.

Negative movers

Parker McLachlin. He began the day tied for 40th after a first-round 68 at Brown Deer Park Golf Club but went the wrong way on Friday, following up that low round with a 4-over 74.

Kris Cox. Cox, tied for 17th on Thursday, definitely didn't play par golf this week. Though he shot 67 in the first round, that included seven birdies, four bogeys and just seven pars. On Friday, he had an up-and-down day again, only this time he made six bogeys and a double bogey compared to five birdies and missed the cut.

Peter Lonard. He came oh-so-close to making it but just barely missed the weekend after starting the day in a tie for 17th. Lonard's 2-over 72 in the second round placed him at 1-under for the tournament, one stroke above the cutline.

On the number

Martin Laird. He started on the front nine and made five straight birdies on Nos. 14-18. He nearly missed the cut after a double bogey on No. 4, but he birdied the 8th before bogeying No. 9 to make the cut on the line.

Jon Turcott. Those Wisconsin fans will be happy. Turcott is a local favorite and attracted quite a following the first two days. No doubt those fans are thankful they have him to root for this weekend after he landed on just the right number.

Dean Wilson. His day didn't start off too poorly, as he opened with three birdies and a bogey on the back nine (his front). But then he went double bogey, bogey, bogey, double bogey on Nos. 1-4 and, if not for a birdie on No. 5, he would have missed the cut.

Notable missed cuts

Jesper Parnevik. The flashy dresser seemed poised to make a run at the title after sitting in a tie for seventh on Thursday. But he followed up a 66 with a disappointing 73 -- a high score this week -- and missed the cut.

Tony Finau. Never heard of Tony Finau? Think a right-handed Bubba Watson, except he hits the ball farther than Watson does. The 18-year-old shot 67 in the second round and barely missed the weekend.

Fred Funk. His roller-coaster round included a double bogey on No. 10 followed by an eagle on No. 15 where he gained those two strokes back. The PGA TOUR and Champions Tour player missed the cut by a stroke.
