TURNBERRY, Scotland (AP) -- Reinier Saxton won the 113th Amateur Championship on Saturday in strong wind and rain.

The 20-year-old Dutchman hit eight birdies in 34 holes to beat Tommy Fleetwood by three and two, denying the 17-year-old Englishman the chance to become the youngest player to win The Amateur.

"I felt quite relaxed," Saxton said. "Of course you're going to feel a little pressure over the last few holes, but I just had to stay focused whatever happened.

"Even when you're three holes ahead you can still lose."

Fleetwood said the better player won the championship, which first started in 1885.

"Tee to green he was much better than I was," Fleetwood said. "I can't be disappointed. I did better than 286 other golfers but I would really like to have won."
