Melbourne, Fla. -- Shaun Micheel, the 2003 PGA Champion, underwent successful shoulder surgery on Tuesday and is expected to return to the PGA TOUR next season following a standard rehabilitation schedule.

Renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. Andrews repaired a partially torn labrum in Micheel's left shoulder and also removed a bone spur. An MRI conducted during the week of THE PLAYERS Championship revealed the partial tear.
"I could not ignore the pain any longer and scheduled the surgery for the week following the Stanford St. Jude Championship," said Micheel. "I'm looking forward to beginning my rehabilitation process and can't wait to return to the golf course."
