K.J. Choi, Steve Flesch, Rod Pampling
Tee time:
9:06 a.m.
Tee: No. 10
Total TOUR wins: 13
Why you should watch: Choi, the defending champion, will spend the day trying to avoid the cut line. He's one shot to the bad side after a 76 on Thursday. Flesch is in the same boat, with the same Thursday score. The story here is Pampling. A 67 on Thursday has him two shots off the lead at the start of the day. What's more, he came into the week with two top-10 finishes in his last three starts, including a tie for second last week at Colonial.

Jerry Kelly, Fredrik Jacobson, Mathew Goggin
Tee time:
9:06 a.m.
Tee: No. 1
Total TOUR wins: 2
Why you should watch: Goggin, searching for his first PGA TOUR victory, used just nine putts on the back nine Thursday en route to a 65 and the first-round lead. Kelly starts the day just one shot off the lead after a 66 that included bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17. He appears to be on a bit of an upswing. He tied for 15 last week at Colonial. Jacobson will have some work ahead of him after a 79 on Thursday.

Chad Campbell, Kenny Perry, Charley Hoffman
Tee time:
1:36 p.m.
Tee: No. 10
Total TOUR wins: 14
Why you should watch: The story here is clearly Perry. When was the last time Perry wasn't in the mix at a PGA TOUR event? In actuality, it's been nearly a month. He's angling hard for a spot on that Ryder Cup team. He'll probably need to pull off a victory to get that, and this week could be the week. Perry pulled off a six-birdie stretch Thursday. If he keeps doing that, that victory can't be far behind. Hoffman and Campbell are both flirting around the cut line as play begins Friday.
