CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Having ties to the Tar Heel State didn't help much this week.

Johnson Wagner, a resident of Charlotte who captured his first PGA TOUR win just four weeks ago, didn't capitalize on his home-city advantage. Wagner missed the weekend when he finished at 4-over par.

Amateur Trevor Murphy graduates from University of North Carolina-Charlotte this month but got an early start on his potential career when he qualified for the Wachovia Championship on Tuesday. Murphy's opening-round 71 had him in a tie for 24th after day one but a subsequent 76 dashed his hopes.

Former Wake Forest University players Bill Haas and Billy Andrade missed the cut, while fellow Demon Deacon Kyle Reifers withdrew on Friday from back problems.

Wake Forest's Atlantic Coast Conference rivals down Tobacco Road can't boast either. North Carolina Tar Heel Davis Love III missed the cut by four strokes along with North Carolina State's Marc Turnesa (8 over) and Tim Clark (8 over). Mark Wilson, a UNC alum, and Duke University's Joe Ogilvie made it by one stroke.

Trevor Immelman's post-Masters woes continue, though the 2008 winner did score his best round since Sunday at Augusta National on Friday at the Wachovia Championship. After a 78 and a 75 at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship last week, Immelman shot a 76 on Thursday in Charlotte but his second-round 73 was too little, too late to make the cut.

Adam Scott sank a 48-foot putt on the last hole to win last week at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. This week, he converted a 14-footer on his last hole on Friday and simply stick around at the Wachovia Championship.

Several of Scott's fellow young international colleagues weren't so lucky. Paul Casey (5 over), Luke Donald (3 over) and Justin Rose (5 over) were all sent packing.

A total of 87 players made the cut at 1-over par on Friday. Based on the PGA TOUR's new cut policy, there will be another cut on Saturday to cull the field to 78 players.
