Surrounded at the top of the leaderboard by some of the best players in the world, Geoff Ogilvy persevered to win his second World Golf Championships event with solid, steady play.
Ogilvy was average off the tee this week and made less birdies than each of the three players who tied for second place (six fewer than Jim Furyk, five fewer than Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen). However, he led the entire field in greens in regulation and scrambling for par around the green, two critical components in terms of birdie opportunities, making pars, and avoiding bogeys.
Geoff Ogilvy made only one bogey in 72 holes of play, while the field averaged more than 15. Ogilvy was also much better than the three runners-up in bogey avoidance -- Goosen made seven bogeys, and Furyk and Singh made eight each.
