Birdies for the Brave player profile - Phil Mickelson

Since making his professional debut at the 1992 U.S. Open, former Arizona State Univesity standout Phil Mickelson ranks second among active players and recently passed Horton Smith to become 13th on the all-time wins list.

In 2007, he competed in three of the four PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup tournaments and finished third in season-ending points. He won three times on the PGA TOUR and earned a career high of $5,819,988, which pushed his career earnings past the $45 million mark. Phil has finished second or third on the money list seven times including six of the last eight seasons. He has finished in the Top 10 at eight of the last nine Masters Tournaments, including wins in 2004 and 2006. His 2005 PGA Championship win came with a birdie on the final hole -- just as it did for his 2004 Masters title. A member of the last six Ryder Cup teams, he is the only U.S. Player to appear in all seven Presidents Cups.

Mickelson's support of Homes For Our Troops

Mickelson has been a huge supporter of Homes For Our Troops through Birdies for the Brave, a non-profit organization established by Mickelson and his wife, Amy to provide support for U.S. troops and their families. Each season, Mickelson donates $100 for each birdie and $500 for each eagle he makes on the PGA TOUR. Mickelson's efforts also raised substantial additional contributions as people across the country joined him in supporting our troops by hosting golf tournaments of their own and donating the proceeds to Homes For Our Troops.

Homes For Our Troops builds new homes and adapts existing homes for handicap accessibility for veterans who have returned from combat with serious injuries and disabilities. Homes For Our Troops uses donations of home construction materials and labor as well as monetary contributions to adapt and build these homes at no cost to the veteran.

Mickelson's support of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation

Since January 2004, when Phil and Amy Mickelson announced their support of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation through its inaugural program, "Birdies for the Brave," their support and generosity have made a significant impact on the families of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

"Family is everything to Amy and me," said Mickelson, "and this is our way of helping families in need stay together and grow strong even after the loss of a parent. Birdies for the Brave is an opportunity to salute the men and women who have given their lives on our behalf around the world and to let their families know their sacrifices won't be forgotten."

The Phil and Amy Mickelson Charitable Fund contributes $100 per birdie and $500 per eagle to the program. To date, the "Birdies for the Brave" program has raised $250,000 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

Additionally, as result of Phil Mickelson's involvement with the SOWF, the Foundation has seen a spike in its charity golf tournaments over the years, including a series of TPC tournaments, and a donation from bass player Dave Farrell from the band Linkin Park while the band was in Tampa. Together, through the support of Phil Mickelson, these additional events raised another $250,000 for the Foundation.
