Who to watch: John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run
Jul. 10, 2008
Who should you keep a close eye on going into this week's PGA TOUR event at TPC Deere Run? Here are a handful of names.

 |
PLAYER: Kenny Perry | POSITION: 3rd Perry will move into second on the FedExCup points list if he makes the cut, because he is currently only seven points behind Mickelson. He is by far the hottest player in golf over the past eight weeks, with a second and a tie for sixth to go along with his two victories in that span. He also has a good track record at the John Deere Classic, finishing tied for 11th here last year. In 20 years, he's played the event eight times, with four top 10s, including a second in 1994 and a third in 1998. MORE: 2008 stats | 2008 results | Profile |

PLAYER: D.J. Trahan | POSITION: 16th Trahan finished fourth at the U.S. Open and has two straight top-25 finishes since then, halting his slide down the FedExCup standings since his win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic earlier this year propelled him into third place. A win or a second at the John Deere Classic could move him back into the top 10. He made the cut all three times he played this event, with finishes of tie for 10th, tie for 27th and tie for 32nd. PLAYER: Woody Austin | POSITION: 29th Austin finished tied for second in his last start (at the Buick Open), moving into the top 30 in the FedExCup standings. He has made the cut at each of the last four John Deere Classics but finished mid-pack each time. MORE: 2008 stats | 2008 results | Profile |

PLAYER: Tommy Armour III | POSITION: 33rd Armour has made seven straight cuts and, in his last four events, racked up a tie for second, a tie for third, a tie for 10th and a tie for 24th to move from outside the top 100 in the FedExCup standings to 33rd. A win this week would get him into the top 10. MORE: 2008 stats | 2008 results | Profile |

PLAYER: Tim Clark | POSITION: 74th Clark struggled through the first half of 2007 and was ranked 108th on the FedExCup points list following the U.S. Open. But a torrid stretch of golf in his next three events brought him to 34th, and solid play in the Playoffs got him into THE TOUR Championship. If he can heat up like he normally does (he's had two seconds, two thirds, a fourth, two sixths and a ninth between mid-June and mid-August over the past five years), he could be a serious contender for the FedExCup in the Playoffs. He finished tied for 36th last week at the AT&T National. MORE: 2008 stats | 2008 results | Profile |
