Pick: Steve Marino
If it weren't for Brandt Snedeker, Marino might be the No. 1 contender for rookie of the year honors. He's got four top-10 finishes and isn't afraid to go low. Last year he shot a 59 in a mini-tour event and in the final stage of q-school he fired a 62 that went a long way in securing his PGA TOUR card for 2007. He hasn't missed a cut since the beginning of July and at No. 63 in the FedExCup standings, he'll need a pretty good week just outside of Boston to lock up a spot in the field of 70 for next week in Chicago and the BMW Championship.

The adopted Canadian probably deserved a captain's selection for the International Presidents Cup team so he has something to prove in the playoffs. Five top-30s in his last six starts and coming off an idle week, so he'll be fresh as the playoffs continue.

Pick: Brett Quigley
It hasn't been the best season for Brett Quigley -- on the course, that is, since he became a dad for the first time in April -- but he's heading home to New England this week and hopes for a win in front of the home crowd. Can he earn his first PGA TOUR victory at TPC Boston and secure his spot in the field for next week's BMW Championship? That's what the Playoffs are all about -- stepping up when the pressure is on -- and Quigley showed that he had the ability to succeed under fire when he birdied Nos. 17 and 18 last week to move into the Deutsche Bank Championship field.

Pick: Rich Beem
It's a tough call here. Beemer is playing for the next round; Jerry Kelly for, well, more respect than we often give him. Picking back-to-back Cheesehead wins -- that was a touch of class by Kelly waiting to congratulate Steve Stricker -- was tempting, but the playoffs are all about getting hot at the right time. And, well, Beemer's looking like the guy.

Pick: Bubba Watson
He's been awfully quiet since his tie for fifth in the U.S. Open, missing three cuts, getting DQed once and finishing 76th. He tied for 12th here last year and the return to a course where he has good memories just might awaken him.

Pick: Davis Love III
Lesson one from the opening round of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup seems to be, if you aren't in the top five you aren't going to significantly improve your position. Davis Love III has to pass eleven people this week to advance to the BMW Championship next week. Don't be surprised if he turns around an otherwise lackluster season with a big week in Boston.

Pick: John Rollins
He's 19th in the FedExCup standings, so John Rollins is not in any danger of missing out on a trip to Chicago next week for the BMW Championship. He may have something to prove, though, after just missing out on a berth on the U.S. Presidents Cup team. Not to mention, he's played well at the TPC Boston with ties for fourth, 15th and 40th in three starts there.

Only two top-10s all year for the former PLAYERS winner, and those came before the Masters in back-to-back weeks, but he has been showing spark in his last few outings, including his tie for 12th at the PGA Championship playing alongside Tiger Woods in the final pairing, an experience that can only be viewed as a lesson to grow on. He's never played at the TPC Boston. Sometimes, too, experience can be a bit overrated.
