Pick: Tiger Woods

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that Tiger Woods -- the No. 1 player in the world and No. 4 in the FedExCup standings -- will successfully defend his title at the Deutsche Bank Championship. In four starts at the TPC Boston, Woods has three top-10 finishes and an uncharacteristic tie for 40th in 2005. After two weeks off following his 13th major victory at the PGA Championship, Woods will certainly be refreshed and ready to play.

If nothing else, TFI won't lose ground against most of the other experts taking this consensus picks. Besides, he does like Boston, doesn't he?

Pick: K.J. Choi
Tiger Woods always seems to come through when he needs a victory and this week he needs one to regain the lead in the FedExCup race. But my money's on K.J. Choi, who switched to an oversized putting grip and has been unstoppable ever since. Other than a missed cut in the U.S. Open, Choi's worst finish in the last seven tournaments was a tie for 12th at the PGA Championship. Choi was runner-up to Steve Stricker last week and has won twice this year to sit at No. 2 in the FedExCup standings. If anyone has a chance of beating Tiger for the inaugural trophy, it's Choi. After all, he did win Tiger's first AT&T National and could follow that up by winning the other tournament Tiger's involved with -- the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Like we said ... until further notice. He took a week off, spotted the field and now he's back. Game on. He's won here and he likes the course. He's still, even with a break, the hottest player in the game.

Pick: Rory Sabbatini
He has a tendency to stay hot as his performance in the Masters, EDS Byron Nelson Championship and Wachovia Championship (T2, T3 and T3, respectively) showed earlier this season. I like his tie for third at The Barclays and look for him to improve two spots this week in his first look at the TPC Boston. He will steal the thunder from the defending champion (Tiger Woods) and the man with the best record at this track, Vijay Singh (second in 2004, win in 2005 and fourth in 2006).

The defending champion was so concerned that three players passed him on Sunday that he really buckled down this week. He rang the opening bell of the N.Y. Stock Exchange on Tuesday and then caught the Yankees-Red Sox game in the Bronx that night. He has won his last two tournaments and has five victories on the year. Tiger rolls again in New England.

OK. I am officially on the bandwagon. Look for Tiger Woods to win his third straight and sixth event overall in 2007 at the TPC Boston, reclaiming the top spot in the FedExCup standings in the process. The defending champion must like the changes here, too -- he shot a cool 8-under 63 in Thursday's pro-am.

No one cobbles together winning streaks like the No. 1 player in the world who is No. 4 in the FedExCup standings. No one knows how to defend a title like Woods, either. Four of his five victories in 2007 have been successful title defenses. No one knows how to use personal motivation as a weapon on a golf course like Woods. No one should mess with him this week.

Champions Tour expert Lauren Deason gives us her thoughts on what will happen at the Wal-Mart First Tee Open this week at Pebble Beach.:

Pick: Bernhard Langer
This was a tough choice -- if Mark O'Meara and Nick Price are any indication, it's tough to win as a rookie on the Champions Tour. But I think Bernhard Langer has the game to win his first event on the Tour at the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. If not, he should at least make an impressive showing since he's already earned four top-10s on the PGA TOUR in 2007 and has five top-15s out of seven tries in his past attempts at Pebble Beach on the PGA TOUR.
