Blog: Slocum looks forward to playing at home Special to PGATOUR.com Editor's note: Heath Slocum, who already has three top-six finishes this year, is currently playing in the Wachovia Championship. He's rested after a week off and ready for a three-event stretch that includes next week's PLAYERS Championship and the AT&T Classic. Before things got too busy, Slocum wrote another blog for PGATOUR.com. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It is great to be back out this week after taking a week off to relax and get some practice in back home in Alpharetta, Ga. Having just moved, I always have stuff to do when I'm home. We are still trying to get settled in, even though we are approaching a year in the new house. Between chores and errands, I was able to get out to my new home course, The Golf Club of Georgia, about four times last week. It has been great as the course is only about 8 miles away from my house. The course is being prepared right now for the NCAA East Regional that will be played there the same week as the AT&T Classic so it is in tremendous shape. I guess if you like golf, Atlanta will be a great place to be in a few weeks. ![]() Heath Slocum is keeping busy on and off the course. (Martin/WireImage)
This week I am in Charlotte at the Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow. My coach Mark Blackburn came in earlier this week and we were able to get some good work in before the tournament started. This is a very important tournament. The course here at Quail Hollow is one of my favorite on TOUR and the tournament staff always takes great care of you here from the tiniest detail to your Mercedes courtesy car. I played a practice round on Tuesday with Bubba Watson who went to my high school in Milton, Fla. With Boo Weekley winning the Verizon Heritage a couple of weeks ago, the boys from Milton have received a lot of attention since it is very unusual to have that many players off a high school team playing on the PGA TOUR. A practice round with Bubba is always entertaining as he hits the ball a ton. There is never a dull moment in a round with him. I was able to get off to a great start in the first round and believe working with Mark really has me playing well. I hope to keep it up over the next three days and then into the next two important tournaments coming up. After leaving Charlotte, I am looking forward to playing the newly renovated TPC Sawgrass next week. I hear the new clubhouse is unbelievable and the course is in great shape. My caddie D.J. better be practicing up for his shot on No. 17 during the practice round. Each year the caddies get a chance to see which one can get it closet on the famous island green. D.J. is my odds-on favorite because he is a great player who played in college and professionally a bit. The week after that will be a special one as I will be playing a "home" tournament for the first time at the AT&T Classic in Atlanta. I will be able to sleep in my own bed and look forward to being able to have a few players and friends out to the house one night for dinner. |
