Target World Challenge: Third-Round Notebook

Dec. 15, 2007

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Tiger Woods owns a six-stroke lead heading into Sunday's final round. Woods has held/shared a third-round lead 44 times on the PGA TOUR (official events only) and has gone on to win 41 times. The three events he failed to win were the 1996 Quad City Classic (led by one, finished four back); the 2000 TOUR Championship (tied for lead, finished two back) and the 2004 TOUR Championship (tied for lead, finished four back).

• Three third-round leaders/co-leaders have gone on to win the Target World Challenge event over its first eight years: Tom Lehman in 1999, Padraig Harrington in 2002 and Davis Love III in 2003.

Jim Furyk's double bogey at the par-3 15th ended his streak of bogey-free holes at 40. Furyk had made only one hiccup in this event, a bogey 5 on the par-4 10th hole during the opening round.

• Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk and Zach Johnson have each posted three rounds in the 60s this week. Only five players have accomplished that in tournament history: Tiger Woods in 2004 (won), Padraig Harrington in 2004 (second), Jay Haas in 2004 (tied for third), Tiger Woods in 2000 (second) and Tom Lehman in 1999 (won).

Colin Montgomerie has rebounded nicely after an opening-day 80. Monty has bounced back with rounds of 67-69 and stands at even-par 216 after 54 holes. Montgomerie had the only eagle of the day, at the par-5 11th hole.

• The easiest hole continues to be the 522-yard 11th hole. The par 5 has yet to see a single over-par score recorded there. Over the first 54 holes, there have been 3 eagles, 26 birdies and 19 pars, resulting in a scoring average of 4.333.

• Tiger Woods is making his ninth start in this event and has posted above-par scores in only three of 35 total rounds. Woods' only above-par scores were a 4-over 76 in the final round in 1999, a third-round 74 in 2001 and a final-day 73 in 2005.

• Tiger Woods owns a six-stroke lead after 54 holes, matching the largest 54-hole lead in tournament history. Padraig Harrington also led by six in 2002. Harrington shot a final-day 71 and won by two shots that year.
