| Round 3 Notebook: Bridgestone Invitational Video: Weather Update | Podcast | Sabbatini, Woods in final group Due to a threatening weather forecast for Sunday, the final round tee times will run from 8 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. off two tees (threesomes). The final group off No. 1 will be at 10:10 a.m. and will feature Tiger Woods, Rory Sabbatini and Kenny Perry. Rory Sabbatini has been a leader or co-leader after 54-holes five other times in his PGA TOUR career. He converted three of those five into wins, including this year at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial when he won in a three-man playoff with Jim Furyk and Bernhard Langer. He also won the 2006 Nissan Open and the 2003 FBR Capital Open after holding the 54-hole lead.
Rory Sabbatini and Tiger Woods played together in the final pairing earlier this year at the Wachovia Championship. Sabbatini had a one-stroke lead over Woods in Charlotte. Woods fired a final-round 3-under 69 to win by two-strokes over Steve Stricker. Sabbatini closed with a 2-over 74 to finish T3. Two Bridgestone Invitational rookies are among the top-10 heading into the final round: Hunter Mahan (T4) and Andres Romero (T4) In the eight-year history of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, Tiger Woods is the only player to enter the final round outside of the lead to come back to win. In 2001, he entered the final 18 holes two behind Jim Furyk before prevailing in a seven-hole playoff. Last year he was one-stroke back of Stewart Cink after 54-holes before defeating Cink in a four-hole playoff. Tiger Woods is looking to earn his sixth victory at the Bridgestone Invitational. It will mark the second time he has recorded six wins in a single tournament. Earlier in the season he won the CA Championship, making it the first tournament Woods has captured six times. List below of tournaments Woods has won five-plus times:
With his win at last week at the Deutsche Bank Players' Championship of Europe on the European Tour, Argentina's Andres Romero earned the last spot into the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational. Romero, who was 114th on the Official World Golf Ranking just two weeks ago, has moved to 29th after finishing third at the British Open and then winning in Germany. Romero has also jumped from 35th to 13th on the Presidents Cup standings during that time span. There has been only one bogey-free round recorded over the two days; Arron Oberholser was bogey-free in round one. With just three weeks remaining in the PGA TOUR Regular Season, 74 players have guaranteed themselves a chance to become the first-ever FedExCup champion. Players ranked 1-74 in the current FedExCup points standings cannot be knocked out of the top 144, and therefore have qualified for The Barclays, the first of four tournaments in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. Tiger Woods has won 13 of 24 official World Golf Championships events, including five of the last seven dating back to the 2005 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.
