Weir's first-place check for $900,000 moved him from 84th on the 2007 money list to 33rd and it pushed him past the $20 million in career earnings ($20,839,725). Weir finished tied for second in Greens in Regulation (79.2%) and tied for 10th in putts per round (28.50). Mark Hensby's second-place finish was his best effort since he tied for third at the 2005 U.S. Open. His lone PGA TOUR victory came at the 2004 John Deere Classic. Hensby's finish earned him a check for $540,000 and moved him from 151st on the money list to 99th with $969,731. Former Arizona State standout and Scottsdale resident Billy Mayfair turned in a solid performance in his hometown. Mayfair finished solo third with four consecutive sub-par rounds. The finish increased his 2007 earnings to $1,784,492 and moved him from 49th to 43rd on the money list. Mayfair's round included a 57 foot, 4 inch birdie putt at No. 17. Pat Perez, another former ASU standout, and a Scottsdale resident as well, tied for sixth thanks to weekend rounds of 67-68. . Windy conditions on Sunday caused the final-round scoring average to soar to 72.392 from Saturday's average of 69.987. There were just 12 sub-par rounds on Sunday, down from 34 on Saturday and the low round of the day was a 2-under-par 68 by five players, including 2007 champion Mike Weir. Hole No. 7 remained the most difficult for the event with an average score of 4.354 (+.354), while No. 15 was the easiest at 3.571 (-.429). Weir made par all four rounds on No. 7 and birdie all four days on No. 15. Sean O'Hair would probably like to forget holes No. 17 and 18. O'Hair's tie for fourth was his best of the season, but he was a combined 5 over par on Nos. 17 and 18 on the weekend. He finished five strokes behind Mike Weir. O'Hair had pulled within two shots of Weir heading to No. 17 on Sunday, but doubled the hole to fall out of contention. Alex Cejka, Kent Jones and Chris Stroud all helped themselves on the all-important 2007 money list race on Sunday. Cejka tied for sixth (his best in 2007) which helped him jump from 124th to 110th on the money list, while Stroud's tie for 12th helped him move from 147th to 136th. Jones tied for 16th to move from 141st to 134th. |
