Fans encouraged to 'get serious' about environmental conservation PGA TOUR players go for the green every day. Now TOUR fans are being encouraged to "Think Green," as well. The PGA TOUR Wives Association, Waste Management and the Fry's Electronics Open have partnered to encourage fans attending this week's tournament at Grayhawk Golf Club to get serious about environmental conservation. Fans will see banners, placards and special recycle bins marked "Chip In for Recycling" placed all over the Raptor Course as a reminder to help in the recycling process. Volunteers will be on site to assist the fans in their recycling efforts. "This is the first environmental initiative our association has undertaken and we are pleased and excited to be partnering with Waste Management and Fry's Electronics Open to pilot this program in the Scottsdale area," said Dory Faxon, president of the PGA TOUR Wives Association. "PGA TOUR events are the perfect forum to get the recycle message out and our fans are supportive of all of our charitable endeavors. We believe that the fans will fully embrace this initiative as well and help us recycle much of the materials that would normally be thrown into the trash." Two weeks ago, the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship in Baltimore became the first tournament on the PGA TOUR or Champions Tour to employ a "Green Strategy" by powering the event with 100 percent renewable energy. The "Chip in for Recycling" program will continue this philosophy of thinking green and the PGA TOUR Wives Association hopes it will spread to more TOUR events next year. Waste Management is the nation's largest recycler and is the Official Environmental Waste Services Provider of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour. The company recycled enough paper last year to save more than 41-million trees. |
