OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup: Round 4 Notebook

Nov. 25, 2007

• The format for the week had teams playing Four-Ball (Better Ball) in the first and third rounds. The second and fourth rounds were Foursomes (Alternate Shot).

• Sunday's weather -- sunny skies and a high temperature of 75 degrees.

• The win today was the first ever for Scotland in this event, which dates back to 1953. The United States leads with the most team wins, 23.

• Today's playoff was the third in the past five years of this event and the second in as many years. Last year in Barbados, the German team of Bernhard Langer and Marcel Siem defeated Scotland's Montgomerie and Warren on the first hole of the playoff.

• The United States team of Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum needed a birdie-3 on the 72nd hole of regulation to force a playoff with Scotland's Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren, who had completed play at 25-under 263 after a sterling round of 66 Sunday. In the alternate shot format, Weekley stuffed an 8-iron from 173 yards to within six feet and Slocum canned the putt, forcing extra holes.

• The United States' best chance in the playoff came on the first extra hole when Scotland needed a 12-foot, par-saving putt by Marc Warren to keep their hopes alive. Warren canned his putt and watched as Slocum's 10-foot birdie putt to win stopped within an inch of the cup.

• Sweden and Spain each had two eagles on par-5s during Sunday's alternate shot format. The Swedish team of Robert Karlsson and Peter Hanson eagled the 3rd and 15th holes, while the Spanish pair of Miguel Angel Jiminez and Jose Manuel Lara eagled the 7th and 11th holes.

• There were a total of eight eagles recorded during Sunday's Foursomes, compared to only two during Fridays' play. During Saturday's Four-Ball, only seven total eagles were made.

• The team from Paraguay shot a bogey-free, 3-under-par 69 Sunday while third-place finisher France (67) was also bogey-free on the final day.

• Scotland and Sweden posted the lowest final-round scores, 6-under-par 66s. Scotland also tied for the lowest round in Friday's Foursomes, a 4-under 68 that was matched by England, Denmark and Italy.

• The United States team of Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum failed in their attempt to do something that hadn't been accomplished in the past seven years of this event -- lead wire-to-wire. Weekley and Slocum led by one shot after each of the first three days.
