Boo Weekley recorded his second eagle of the week during Saturday's third round. Weekley eagled the par-5, 3rd hole, hitting his 4-iron to about 15 feet and making the putt. Weekley then added birdies at the next three par-5s (Nos. 7, 9 and 11). On the fifth and final par-5, No. 15, Weekley had to drop from sprinkler after his tee shot and had an awkward downhill lie for his second. He came up short in the hazard with his third and ultimately settled for a bogey-6. The United States leads the field with three eagles this week (16 birdies), while the team from Germany tops the birdie list with 22 (five bogeys). England and Denmark have the fewest bogeys in 54 holes -- one each. The team from France (Raphael Jacquelin, Gregory Havret) posted a 10-under-par 62 to move up the leaderboard. Jacquelin contributed five birdies on the day, while Havret had three birdies and an eagle to help move the team into contention at 19-under par, one back of the USA. The French tandem rolled in four consecutive birdies starting at No. 13. When the final birdie rolled in the team was at 19-under and had temporarily gained sole possession of first place. The US team responded minutes later with a birdie of their own on No. 11 to gain a share of the lead. During Saturday's play, the top 10 teams on the leaderboard accounted for five eagles, 59 birdies and two bogeys. The United States team of Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum are attempting to do something that hasn't been accomplished in the past seven years of this event -- lead wire-to-wire. Weekley and Slocum have lded by one shot after each of the first three days. The closest any team has come to being a full-time front-runner was South Africa in 2003 when Trevor Immelman and Rory Sabbatini led by two after the second round, by seven after the third round and won by four shots despite a final-round 73.
