Weekley and Slocum have played golf together since grade school in Milton, Fla., a suburb of Pensacola. They were members of the Milton High School golf team and both still live within the area. Prior to earning their current status on the PGA TOUR, the twosome also played on the DP Tour and then the Nationwide Tour at the same time. This will be the first team event they have participated in as professionals. "This is really a dream come true for me," said Weekley. "I am so excited to play with Heath and represent our country in this world event. I remember the days back in the early 1990s when we were trying as a high school team to just get past the district tournament. That was a big goal. Now to be able to go play in China and represent everybody -- well, we sure have come a long way." ![]() Heath Slocum Weekley has enjoyed a successful season on the PGA TOUR. In April, he won the Verizon Heritage for his first TOUR victory. Earlier, he lost in a playoff at The Honda Classic for what would be the second of five top-10 finishes during his season, including a tie for third at the Viking Classic in September. Weekley also recorded nine top-25 finishes on his way to earning $2.6 million. Slocum is a two-time winner on TOUR. He won the 2004 Chrysler Classic of Tucson and the 2005 Southern Farm Bureau Classic. He has five top-10 finishes this year, including a tie for second at the PODS Championship, and he has earned more than $2 million, which is a career-best. |
