FedExCup brings sell-out crowd to East Lake Golf Club

Sep. 12, 2007

ATLANTA -- When the first tee shot is struck Thursday at The TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, it will be in front of a record and sold-out crowd. Tournament officials announced today that all tickets to the event, which is the culminating tournament to the first-ever PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, are completely sold out. This marks the first sell-out since 2000 for The TOUR Championship, and approximately 25,000 fans per day are expected at East Lake Golf Club.

"Ever since the FedExCup was announced, and we were designated as the final Playoff event, we have seen a tremendous increase in attention and interest in The TOUR Championship," said Todd Rhinehart, executive director. "Now we have the top-30 players of the season ready to tee off and compete for not only the tournament trophy, but also the distinction of becoming the first FedExCup Champion. This is a new level of excitement for golf in the Atlanta area."

Regardless of the sell-out, fans who purchased Tuesday or Wednesday tickets can still exchange them for a grounds pass Thursday through Sunday, due to the course being closed to the public until Thursday. The general parking lot at Turner Field will be staffed with volunteers who can exchange spectators' tickets. Tickets can also be exchanged at the admission gate on-site.

All Tuesday and Wednesday tickets that are marked "Clubhouse" or "Delta Crown Room Championship Club" will be honored; however, those will be exchanged for grounds tickets. These tickets were only sold on a weekly basis, and therefore, those purchasers will also have a ticket that they can use for Thursday - Sunday.

A new era in golf began this year with the sport's first, season-long points competition - the FedExCup. The top 144 players based on season-long points were eligible to participate in a four-tournament Playoff competition beginning with The Barclays. Following a progressive cut through the first three Playoff events, the top-30 players qualified for The TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, where the first FedExCup champion will be crowned. THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola will be held Sept. 13-16 at East Lake Golf Club.

Proceeds from The TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola benefit the East Lake Foundation and The First Tee. Since 1998, The TOUR Championship has donated more than $6.4 million to charity, both locally and nationwide.
