• The team of Anthony Kim and Mark O'Meara posted the best birdie streak of the tournament with seven in a row on Nos. 2-8. They finished the day with a 9-under 63 to move into a tie for sixth-place.

• Tournament host Greg Norman, playing this week with Bubba Watson, posted the lowest 36-hole start in his 19 appearances at the Merrill Lynch Shootout. Norman/Watson stand at 18-under 126 (65-61), three strokes better than Norman's 129 total after two rounds in 2004 when he was paired with Scott McCarron. Norman is seeking his second title at the tournament, having teamed with Steve Elkington to win in 1998.

• Just six players have won the Merrill Lynch in their first start: Mark O'Meara (1989), Curtis Strange (1989), Fred Couples (1990), Scott McCarron (1997), Hank Kuehne (2003) and Rod Pampling (2006). Woody Austin is hoping to become the seventh on Sunday.

• Defending champions Jerry Kelly and Rod Pampling will enter the final round six shots behind Woody Austin/Mark Calcavecchia. They face an uphill climb in their effort to become third team to repeat at the three-day event and the first since Hank Kuehne and Jeff Sluman in 2004.

• The format for the final round will be a scramble.
