| Oct. 11, 2007 Who could win? Tournament Coverage Which player could win at this weekend's Frys.com Open? Our experts weigh in: T.J. Auclair PGATOUR.com Interactive Producer Pick: Billy Andrade At No. 141 on the money list, it's time for the veteran to put the pedal to the metal on his 2007 season. What better place than Vegas for that to happen? Andrade's got four PGA TOUR wins to his credit, the last of which came here in the City of Sin in 2000. Andrade is known for turning it up a notch at the end of the season and that's precisely what he's going to have to do now. Brett Avery The Fantasy Insider Pick: Shigeki Maruyama This has been a choppy year (to say the least): 28 starts on TOUR, 14 missed cuts and four WDs. With so-so chances for this guy to make the weekend this is a sleeper in the truest sense of the word, but his last two made cuts were a tie for 11th (last week's Valero Texas Open) and tie for seventh (Wyndham Championship the week before the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup). As a plus his last two starts in Las Vegas are tasty, too: ties for 16th and sixth the last two autumns. Lauren Deason PGATOUR.com Editorial Coordinator Pick: Mike Weir I know it seems like cheating to pick Mike Weir as a sleeper but he fits our criteria and, frankly, didn't have the best year until turning his season around with back-to-back ties for eighth at the AT&T National and the Open Championship. And who could forget his performance in The Presidents Cup where he capped an already successful week by beating Tiger Woods in singles? That was just what his stagnant year needed and he's going to head into Las Vegas -- where his best finish has been a tie for 12th -- a changed and ready-to-win man. Melanie Hauser PGATOUR.com Correspondent Pick: Mike Weir Oh, the options... everyone from Dan Forsman to Bo Van Pelt. Forsman shares the course record and is coming off a top 6 in San Antonio, but this would be a great place for Weirsy to finish off a comeback season. He's had a week to rest from a great Presidents Cup and his game just keeps getting better. Dave Lagarde PGATOUR.com Correspondent Pick: Ben Crane Inactive since April 29 and makes his first start in Las Vegas where he has been a consistent threat in five starts. Crane averages a little better than 17-under par in each of those. If he can shake off the rust he'll be a factor come Sunday. John Maginnes PGATOUR.com Contributor Pick: Bart Bryant Bryant has always played pretty well in Vegas. Particularly since the tournament changed its format to include only the two TPC Courses. The last two years he has put together three good rounds and on mediocre one. Look for the old war horse to put it all together this week. If the flat stick cooperates double down on double "B"s this weekend. Helen Ross PGATOUR.com Chief of Correspondents Pick: Billy Andrade Andrade is the 2000 champion in Las Vegas. He's 136th on the money list, so a good showing at a place where he's had success should help the Wake Forest grad lock up his card for the 2008 season. Dave Shedloski PGATOUR.com Senior Correspondent Pick: Jason Gore Two top-10s this year and without a victory for two years, it seems like Gore is this week's top choice to use the Fall Series to get off the schneid. He has the potential to go low anywhere, and although he has yet to light up Vegas, he might fight the right combination this week. |
