Pick: Charley Hoffman
Hoffman hit a lull after his first PGA TOUR win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic at the start of the year, but he looks to have gotten back on track. Hoffman hasn't missed a cut in his last four starts and has finished in the top 25 in each of those events, highlighted by a tie for fifth at the Turning Stone Resort Championship. That solid play, along with the fact that Vegas is somewhat of a home game for the UNLV grad and the fact that he tied for fifth here last year leads me to believe the surfer-looking dude will come out on top this week.

Pick: Daniel Chopra

Last week's Valero Texas Open was an ideal moment for his first tournament of the season with four sub-70 rounds. The $261,000 he picked up after a tie for third locked up his PGA TOUR card for 2008 and gives a big boost going into this week's Frys.com Open, where he was runner-up last year. He also tied for 12th in 2005 so the TPC Summerlin and TPC Canyons have been accommodating to him.

Pick: Charley Hoffman
The University of Nevada-Las Vegas grad has finished inside the top-25 in his past four tournaments, including a tie for 11th last week at the Valero Texas Open. Since earning his win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic at the start of the season, Hoffman hit a few rough patches but has quietly been performing well since the AT&T National. Look for Hoffman, who tied for fifth in the Frys.com Open last season, to do well again.

Pick: Daniel Chopra
Tempting to go with Jesper Parnevik, but bouncing back from a playoff loss is tougher than you think. Thought about Scott Verplank, too. But Chopra has a history here and played very well in San Antonio. A shot here or there and he'd have been coming down the stretch with Justin Leonard and Jesper.

Pick: Bill Haas
Locked up his playing privileges two weeks ago in Mississippi and returns to a place where he finished tied for 11th in his only start. Has ability to make lots and lots of birdies, a prerequisite in the desert. Could this be his breakthrough event?

Pick: Charles Howell III
The entire town has been built on the fact that you can't pick a winner. So, before I ever get off the plane let me go ahead and make my first bad guess. Logic says that Charles Howell III is a good pick. He was playing some of his best golf of his career at the beginning of the season. Perhaps a little too much tinkering in the hot months caused some wildness off the tee and a draining of confidence. But he is back on top of his game. He has had a few weeks off and should be nice and relaxed. Unlike most of us he won't be drawn like a moth to the glitz of the strip and should be focused on his game.

Pick: Charley Hoffman
It's hard playing at home and easy to put too much pressure on yourself at a place you know so well. Charley Hoffman seems to have found the right combination, though, with a tie for fifth in Vegas last year. Plus, the 2000 UNLV grade is playing well, after a tie for 11th last week in San Antonio and a tie for fifth at Turning Stone.

Pick: Scott Verplank
While a lot of eyes will be on Mike Weir, we think the often overlooked and underestimated Verplank will be the strongest Presidents Cup player in Vegas. Verplank does so many things well that he often flies under the radar, but he showed once again in going 4-0 at the Presidents Cup that all those things add up to success. Has nine top-10 finishes this year, most in the field, and his fifth PGA TOUR title at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. He'll be in the hunt come Sunday.

The Champions Tour is back in action this weekend at the Administaff Small Business Classic. PGATOUR.com Champions Tour expert Lauren Deason gives us her pick:
Mark Wiebe. In his two starts on the Champions Tour he's won and tied for seventh. Actually, if not for three straight bogeys on his final three holes at last week's Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, Wiebe could have had a tie for third. Watch out for this one -- he will get another win very soon.
