Turning Stone Resort Championship part of Fall Series

Jan. 16, 2007

Verona, NY--PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem announced in August that the Turning Stone Resort Championship will be the first of seven tournaments in the 2007 PGA TOUR Fall Series. Turning Stone's Atunyote Golf Club, which hosted the TOUR's 2006 B.C. Open after flooding in the Binghamton area nearly cancelled the tournament, will feature the event on September 17-23 in Verona, NY.

"Turning Stone Resort did a tremendous job hosting the B.C. Open in July with just two weeks to prepare," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. "Our players, staff and officials all came away impressed with the course, the resort and the individuals that helped make this event happen in such a short amount of time. We are delighted that this partnership will allow the creation of a new event that we know the market will embrace."

The Oneida Indian Nation, which owns Turning Stone Resort, will be the host organization for the $6-million purse event with an agreement in place through 2012.

"The Oneida people join together with our employees at Turning Stone Resort and all of our related enterprises to express our sincere appreciation to Commissioner Finchem for this outstanding opportunity," said Ray Halbritter, Nation Representative and CEO, Oneida Indian Nation. "Like the PGA TOUR and its players, we strive for excellence in everything we do. The Turning Stone Resort Championship will showcase the world's best golfers on what we believe to be one of the best golf courses in the world. We invite everyone to come and experience Oneida culture and hospitality first-hand and enjoy the excitement as we launch the Fall Series."

In July at the B.C. Open presented by Turning Stone Resort, John Rollins won his second-career PGA TOUR title, holding off a challenge from Bob May to win by one stroke.

Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2004, the Atunyote GC's 7,315-yard layout also played host to the PGA of America Professional National Championship earlier this year. Atunyote (uh-DUNE-yote), the Oneida word for eagle, is a parkland course with vast stretches of open space, gently rolling hills, a stream and small waterfalls, and several lakes. The largest body of water, measuring 13 acres, runs along three fairways, including the dramatic finishing hole.

In 2004 the course was ranked by Travel & Leisure Golf as one of the "10 Best New Public/Resort Courses," and by GOLF Magazine as one of the "Top 10 New Courses You Can Play."

The PGA TOUR Fall Series will begin immediately following the conclusion of the FedExCup season, which culminates September 16 at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. The seven-event series will be televised on GOLF CHANNEL and will offer more than $32 million in official prize money.
