Canadian Open: Third-Round Notebook PGA TOUR Staff MARKHAM, Ontario -- Q-School medalist George McNeill shot a bogey-free 66 Saturday to jump 37 spots and finish the third round tied for ninth. McNeill's best finish in 2007 came at the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he tied for 13th. McNeill currently sits 151st on the money list with approximately nine events left to earn enough money to secure his playing privileges for next year. ![]() George McNeill is on track for his best finish of the 2007 season. Vijay Singh has won 31 times on the PGA TOUR, including the 2004 Canadian Open. At age 44, Singh has won 24 different tournaments, five of them at least twice: The Barclays (1993, 1995, 2006); Phoenix Open (1995, 2003); Buick Open (1997, 2004, 2005); Shell Houston Open (2002, 2004, 2005); and PGA Championship (1998, 2004). Singh is 17 for 26 when holding or sharing a 54-hole lead on the PGA TOUR. He's never finished worse than fifth after holding at least a share of the 54-hole lead. One more note on Singh: Since 2004 he's amassed more top-10s, 54, than John Mallinger, Steve Allan, Hunter Mahan, Brandt Snedeker, Pat Perez, Tripp Isenhour, George McNeill and Bob Heintz combined. Hunter Mahan shot a 67 on Saturday, the same score he shot the Saturday of his maiden tournament win at the 2007 Traveler's Championship. Speaking of similar numbers, it's interesting to note that he's shot three straight 65s during his last three final rounds. Glen Day shot a 3-under 68 to finish Saturday tie for ninth. He's looking to rebound after missing consecutive cuts in his last two starts. Mike Weir shot a 4-under 67 Saturday, vaulting him to tie for 27th place. Weir's 67 matches his lowest round at a Canadian Open -- he also shot 67 during the last round of the 2002 Canadian Open at Angus Glen GC. Bob Heintz is looking for a second straight top-10 after firing a 4-under 67 Saturday. He tied for fifth at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee last week and is currently No. 147 on the money list. Seven of the 13 players in the top-10 through three rounds are seeking their first win: Steve Allan, John Mallinger, Pat Perez, George McNeill, Bob Heintz, Bo Van Pelt and Brandt Snedeker. Justin Leonard shot a 2-under 69 Sunday aided by an eagle on the par-4 fifth hole. After a 293-yard drive in the middle of the fairway, Leonard holed out from 192 yards to score an eagle on the hardest hole on the golf course so far this week. The fifth hole is playing to a stroke average of 4.269. Jim Furyk stands at 9-under 204 after the first three days. Furyk, winner of the Canadian Open last year at Hamilton G&CC, is trying to become the first back-to-back winner of this event since Jim Ferrier did it in 1950 and 1951. Dicky Pride is 50 of 52 on putts inside 10 feet this week. George McNeill is 44 of 45 on putts inside 10 feet this week. Bart Bryant has hit 39 of 42 fairways this week. Olin Browne has hit 38 of 42 fairways this week. |
