Before this week, K.J. Choi has held or shared the 36-hole lead four times in his PGA TOUR, and has gone on to win each of those events. They were the 2002 Compaq Classic of New Orleans, the 2002 Tampa Bay Classic, the 2006 Chrysler Championship and the 2007 AT&T National.
The 130 total for K.J. Choi is three strokes off the 36-hole low total at The Barclays. Bob Gilder posted a 127 total en route to a wire-to-wire victory in 1982 on a par-70 set-up. The 130 total is one off the low first 36-hole total on the PGA TOUR in 2007.
K.J. Choi entered the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup seeded fifth on the strength of wins at the Memorial Tournament and the AT&T National. Choi also earned a position on the 2007 Presidents Cup team for the second time, having played in South Africa in 2003.
In the 42-year history of The Barclays at Westchester Country Club, only 12 of 42 players have gone on to win after holding at least a share of the 36-hole lead. Vijay Singh shared the lead with David Howell in 2007 through two rounds en route to victory. Prior to Singh, the last player to win when holding at least a share of the lead was Sergio Garcia in 2001.
On the PGA TOUR in 2007, only 12 of 35 leaders/co-leaders through 36 holes have gone on to win.
The 36-hole leader K.J. Choi is in search of his third win of 2007, having captured the Memorial Tournament and the AT&T National earlier this year. Since 2000, eight different players have won three or more events in a season, led by Tiger Woods who has won three or more times seven years since 2000.
Vijay Singh became the ninth defending champion to miss the cut in 2007. It was only Singh's second missed cut in 15 starts at The Barclays. He missed the cut in 2002 and withdrew in 1994 after a first-round 74 as the defending champion.
Rich Beem (second) is capable of putting together a hot streak -- in 2002 he won the INTERNATIONAL and the PGA Championship in back-to-back weeks, and then finished tied for sixth the week after the PGA Championship at the World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational.
Rich Beem is first in Putting Average (GIR) this week at 1.500. Beem entered the week tied for 136th on TOUR at 1.803.
In 38 career rounds at Westchester Country Club, Ernie Els has posted 30 sub-par rounds and 33 rounds at par or better. His career scoring average at the event is 69.07.
In nine previous starts at the Barclays, Ernie Els has two wins (1996 and 1997) and five top-10s. Els won wire-to-wire in both 1996 and 1997 and surpassed Tiger Woods for No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking after winning in 1997, the first of nine career weeks at No. 1 for Els.
Steve Elkington's streak of 15 consecutive made cuts at Westchester Country Club ended as he posted a 2-over-par 73 on Friday to finish at 1 over par. The streak includes the 2000 season, when he made the cut but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Overall, he has made 16 cuts in 19 starts at Westchester CC.

After a win last week at the Wyndham Championship by fellow rookie Brandt Snedeker, Anthony Kim (tied for sixth) is in solid position heading into the weekend after a second-round 68 at The Barclays. Kim is currently 42nd in the FedExCup points standings entering the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. Kim and Snedeker are two of 11 rookies that qualified for the PGA TOUR Playoffs.
Last year, Trevor Immelman became the first rookie to crack the top-10 on the PGA TOUR Money List since Jerry Pate finished 10th in 1976. Despite missing the cut at The Barclays, Brandt Snedeker (ninth in FedExCup seedings/12th on PGA TOUR Money List) looks to add to the list of rookie participants at THE TOUR Champoinship.
Local favorite Johnson Wagner (tied for 59th) birdied the 18th hole on Friday to make the cut on the number. He was 3 over par for the tournament through two holes, and posted three birdies the rest of the way.
Ernie Els added his third eagle of the week on Friday, at the par-5 fifth hole. Paul Goydos and Tim Herron posted the only bogey-free rounds of the day. Tripp Isenhour withdrew after nine holes due to a back injury.
