Strong Horse: Vijay Singh
2nd in FedExCup Points
Singh missed the cut at the PGA Championship -- it was the first cut he had missed in a year. His lackluster play at Southern Hills gave him two more days at home to rest and work on his game, and Singh has always been able to avoid playing poorly for extended periods.
Singh has always played extremely well at Westchester Country Club -- he beat Mark Weibe in a playoff there back in 1993, and his final-round 68 easily beat Adam Scott (70) at Westchester last year.

Strong Horse: Jim Furyk
3rd in FedExCup Points
Furyk will tee it up at Westchester for the first time since 2005, when he finished second to Padraig Harrington. Furyk has a checkered history at Westchester, but all three of his missed cuts came in the mid-1990s.
Furyk has never won at the New York-area course, but he has finished third or better three times. More importantly, Furyk should be rested, although his back is an unknown (Furyk withdrew from the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, citing a back injury).

Like Singh, he missed the cut at Southern Hills, and it will be interesting to see how his back holds up. Before his back troubles, Furyk had reeled off seven straight top-25 finishes (six of them 12th or better) including four sensational rounds in the 60s at the Canadian Open presented by Franklin Templeton Investments, which he won.

Dark Horse: Billy Mayfair
40th in FedExCup Points
The fair-haired, middle-aged Mayfair started the year miserably (six cuts in his first eight starts) but has come on recently, pulling down $750,000 since mid-June.
Mayfair is coming off his best tournament of the season, finishing tied for second at the Wyndham Championship after breaking 70 for all four rounds. The massive 1,867-point week was his best since March.

Dark Horse: Jason Gore
83rd in FedExCup Points
Gore only has one start at Westchester, and results were mixed (78-69). Gore sits 83rd in FedExCup points and needs a solid week to assure himself a spot in the 70-man BMW Championship in two weeks.
Gore had a grand total of 51 FedExCup points in the first three months of the season, but the big hitter from California racked up nearly 2,000 in July alone.
