(Martin/WireImage) There will only be 10 weeks left in the PGA TOUR's Regular Season following this week's stop in Memphis and the top players are beginning to climb up the FedExCup points leaderboard. Of the Top 15 players in the points standing, 12 are among the Top 25 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Look out for David Toms this week in Memphis. The TOUR veteran has finished in the Top 10, winning twice, in his last five starts at the Stanford St. Jude Championship. Over that five-year span he's posted 16 rounds in the 60s out of 20 starts and is 65-under par. In those 20 rounds, Toms has two 63s, a 64 and four 65s. Another on Toms: He will be looking to make it 12 cuts in a row at this year's event. Toms, winner in 2003 and 2004, hasn't missed a cut at TPC Southwind since he shot 74-74 to leave early in 1994. Toms didn't play in 1995, and since returning he has made it to the weekend 11 consecutive times. The all-time tournament record for consecutive cuts made is 14 in a row by Gene Littler from 1958 to 1971. Don't look for a long hitter to win this week in Memphis. Since the 2000 Stanford St. Jude Classic, none of the winners have finished higher than 72nd in Driving Distance for the season in which they won. In fact, the average final position in Driving Distance for that group is 116th. Champions Tour member Loren Roberts, who lives in Germantown, Tenn., and plays out of TPC Southwind, is playing in this tournament for a record-tying 24th time. Roberts, in his third year on the Champions Tour and a winner last week at The Boeing Championship at Sandestin, will tie Lou Graham for the most appearances in tournament history. Gene Littler, John Mahaffey and Mason Rudolph made 23 appearances each in Memphis. In his career at this event, Roberts has made 18 cuts. Only Dave Hill and Littler, with 20 made cuts each, have more. Roberts has eight PGA TOUR titles and six Champions Tour titles to his credit, including the 2006 Senior British Open. K.J. Choi has five career victories on the PGA TOUR to equal the total of all other Asian-born winners in TOUR history combined. Shigeki Maruyama has three career titles while Isao Aoki and T.C. Chen each won once. Geoff Ogilvy, the reigning U.S. Open champion, will be hoping for better results in his fourth visit to TPC Southwind as he prepares for next week's title defense at the U.S. Open in Oakmont, Penn. In his three previous starts in Memphis (2002-04), Ogilvy has never made the cut. Earlier this season, Ogilvy was runner-up at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship to Henrik Stenson. He also tied for third at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship. In addition to 2006 winner Jeff Maggert, this week's field boasts eight additional former tournament champions. They are Justin Leonard (2005), David Toms (2003-04), Len Mattiace (2002), Bob Estes (2001), Ted Tryba (1999), John Cook (1996), Jim Gallahger, Jr. (1995) and Dicky Pride (1994). Who's playing in the Pro-Am At the Stanford St. Jude Championship? Eddie Cheever, Jim Courier, George Lopez, Rob Morrow, Andy Richter, and Tommie Thayer, to name a few. |
