Jun. 2, 2007

DUBLIN, Ohio -- Play in the third round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley was suspended at 1:28 p.m. Saturday due to a dangerous weather situation, then resumed at 4:00 p.m. for a total delay of two hours and 32 minutes. Play will commence off Nos. 1 and 10 in threesomes for the final round on Sunday between 8:00 and 10:01 a.m.

• The suspension of play at 1:28 p.m. on Saturday marked the 11th tournament on the 2007 PGA TOUR to experience a delay of play. Six of the last eight Memorial Tournaments have been marred by suspensions.

SCORING AVERAGES THIS WEEK
Round Front 9 Back 9 Total
Round 1 35.163 36.077 71.240

Round 3 35.403 35.736 71.139

Rod Pampling is 2-2 on the PGA TOUR when holding or sharing the 54-hole. He went on to win the 2004 INTERNATIONAL and the 2006 Bay Hill Invitational, but tied for 10th in the 2006 Buick Invitational and finished third in the 2006 Bank of America Colonial.

Mark Wilson posted seven consecutive birdies (Nos. 3-9) on Saturday, the longest such streak thus far on the PGA TOUR in 2007. His front-nine score of 7-under-par 29 matched the tournament record set by John Huston in the second round in 1996. Wilson totaled a 4-under-par 68 as he struggled with four bogeys and one birdie over his final nine holes.

• At this time, the only remaining way for a player to gain entry into the 2007 U.S. Open (other than Sectional Qualifying) would be the following: Any multiple winner of PGA TOUR co-sponsored events whose victories are considered official from April 26, 2006, through June 3, 2007. Will MacKenzie (2006 Reno-Tahoe Open) is the only player currently in the top-10 with one win since April 26, 2006, as he sits T4 entering the final round.

• One of Stewart Cink's four career PGA TOUR victories has come in the state of Ohio -- the 2004 World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron. He nearly won a second at last year's World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, falling to Tiger Woods on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff in a driving rainstorm. In 11 career starts at the Memorial Tournament, Cink's best finish was fourth in 2001. He has three career top-10s at the event (2001, 2002, 2003).

• Stewart Cink and Will MacKenzie shared low third-round honors at 7-under-par 65. Both players vaulted from T19 to T4 entering Sunday's final round.

Fredrik Jacobson (T7) is back in form after nearly eight months off due to a wrist injury suffered last year. He did not play following the 2006 Deutsche Bank Championship until this year's Verizon Heritage in April, and his best finish in seven starts this year was T7 at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.

• Tiger Woods (T33) is just 4 under par through three rounds (4.75) on the par-5 holes and ranks T44 in that category this week among the 72 players remaining in the field. On the year, Woods ranks second (4.47) on the PGA TOUR on par 5s.

• Only eight times has a player managed to record four rounds in the 60s at the Memorial Tournament: Bart Bryant (2005), Tiger Woods (2001), Fred Couples (1998 and 2004), Steve Elkington (1995), Tom Lehman (1994), Paul Azinger (1993) and Hal Sutton (1986). Entering Sunday's final round, Rod Pampling is the only player to have the opportunity to post four rounds in the 60s (65-68-68).

Jerry Kelly recorded two eagles (Nos. 7 and No. 14) but managed only a 3-under-par 69 due in part to a triple-bogey 8 on the par-5 11th. On the par-4 14th, Kelly holed out from the fairway with a sand wedge from 84 yards. Kelly along with Frank Lickliter II, Will MacKenzie and Geoff Ogilvy all have two eagles apiece this week to lead the field. MacKenzie leads the field in par-5 scoring average at 4.17.

Jason Bohn withdrew after the completion of the second round with a rib injury.
