Austin, Toms Move Up in the Presidents Cup Standings PGATOUR.com Staff While Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson and Charles Howell III continue to lead the top half of the Presidents Cup standings, the bottom half shifted again this week. Although Woody Austin's win at the Stanford St. Jude Championship did jump him up from No. 65 to No. 23, it was David Toms who secured himself a spot in the top 10. Toms' tie for third place in Memphis this weekend took him up five spots to No. 6. Stewart Cink, Brett Wetterich and John Rollins all moved down but still remain in the top 10. Scott Verplank moved up one with his tie for eighth this weekend. Mark Calcavecchia continues to flirt with the top 10. After being in the tenth spot last week, Toms' move pushed him back down to No. 11, where he was two weeks ago. Lucas Glover remains in the No. 12 spot, but a top-10 finish for either Glover or Calcavecchia could secure them a spot. The international rankings have changed little. The top 10 remains the same, with Adam Scott, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els leading the way. K.J. Choi remains in the No. 8 spot after his win at last week's Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley. After being pushed out of the rankings last week, Robert Allenby and Stuart Appleby continue to hang on in the 11th and 12th spots. The two seasoned Australians are both on the verge of making their fifth teams, but keep week after week have come up just shy of the top 10. Allenby's 12th place tie this weekend at the Stanford St. Jude Classic was enough to put him at No. 11, just ahead of Appleby, who did not make the cut. South African and Australian players are dominating the international rankings. Four players from each country are among the top 10, and Singh (Fiji) and Choi (South Korea) round out the list. |
