The race for 60th: What they need

Oct. 26, 2007

The Miccosukee Championship is the final opportunity for players to qualify for next week's Nationwide Tour Championship. Only the top 60 players on the money list make the field for the season-ending event where "THE 25" who receive their PGA TOUR cards for 2008 will be decided.

Last year, two players earned their way into the Nationwide Tour Championship with their performances at Miccosukee. Steve Marino tied for seventh place and jumped from 61st to 54th on the money list, and Gary Christian moved from 63rd to 58th with his share of 10th.

Perhaps the most memorable performance came from D.J. Trahan in 2004, when he won the Miccosukee Championship to jump from 70th on the money list to 26th. He then went on to finish 15th at the Nationwide Tour Championship and earn his TOUR card for 2005.

We have projected the 60th position on the money list after the Miccosukee Classic to be approximately $93,000. This estimate is derived by analyzing trends in historical data maintained by the Nationwide Tour, coupled with current year performance and purse sizes

The table below shows players who are entered in this week's event, and how they will need to perform in order to have a realistic chance of finishing within the top 60 on the money list. This projection could fluctuate, and players close to the threshold will need to perform well this week to guarantee a spot in next week's Nationwide Tour Championship -- and the chance to graduate to the PGA TOUR in 2008.
