SELLERSBURG, Ind. -- Southern Indiana native and golf legend Fuzzy Zoeller was named as the "2008 Honorary Ryder Cup Chairman" for the Louisville Host Committee during a press conference announcing the festivities surrounding the Ryder Cup, which will be held Sept. 16-21, 2008, at Valhalla Golf Club. Zoeller grew up in New Albany, Ind., just 15 minutes from downtown Louisville.

"What a great honor to be associated with The Ryder Cup here in my home region, which we call "Kentuckiana. This Ryder cup will probably be bigger than The Kentucky Derby, and that's saying a lot," said Zoeller.

"I know Fuzzy will be America's good luck charm when those golf balls start flying at The 2008 Ryder Cup," said Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson.

Zoeller was then presented with a Louisville Slugger bat engraved with his name, the Ryder Cup logo and the years he competed (1979, 1983 and 1985) as a member of the United States Ryder Cup team.
