Player Blog: Brandt Snedeker

Sep. 5, 2007

Editor's note: Brandt Snedeker, who capped a standout rookie season with a win at the Wyndham Championship last month, has been writing a blog periodically for PGATOUR.com. He's in Chicago this week playing in the BMW Championship, which is the third event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. Snedeker, who ranks 17th in the standings, took time out to file another blog on Wednesday.

LEMONT, Ill. -- I'm a little disappointed with my play in the first two Playoff events, but I played well in the final round on Monday at the TPC Boston, so maybe things are starting to look up. I finally had some putts go in, which hasn't been happening the last two weeks, so hopefully that will continue this week. I played so well when I won in Greensboro and I really thought I was going to keep it going. But I just had a few mistakes here and there that cost me, and I couldn't really get anything going the last two weeks. Hopefully, Monday was a sign of things to come. We'll see. It's going to be a great week. I've played Cog Hill before, so that should help me out a little bit. It's a good golf course for me. Plus, Chicago is a great town, so I'm excited to be here.

I still haven't really gotten to celebrate my win at the Wyndham Championship with the folks back home. After I missed the cut at The Barclays, I did go into the city for a couple of days with my girlfriend, though. We went shopping up and down Fifth Avenue -- mostly window shopping -- and the people-watching was fun. We went to Central Park and had a couple of nice dinners. Then we went to the U.S. Open tennis tournament on Monday, so that was pretty cool. We saw Roger Federer play the afternoon match and Venus Williams play that night. It's the first time I've been to a tennis tournament, so it was really nice.

It was good to have a few days off to get the battery recharged before I went to Boston for the Deutsche Bank Championship. I wasn't run down or anything, but it was just kind of nice to get away from golf for a couple days. I think I played seven or eight straight days, and that kind of wears you down a little bit. It was good to get away from golf, not touch a club and kind of get my mind on normal stuff again. I had my fun, and then it was time to get back to business.

It was neat last week being announced on the tee as a 2007 winner -- pretty surreal, actually. I've gotten a lot of really fantastic emails and phone calls from people that I haven't talked to in a long time. Bob Murphy and Gary Koch both left messages on my cell phone. That was just kind of out of the blue, which makes it that much more special. I guess it's a testament to the kind of people who are out here working. Plus, lots of players have said congratulations, and that has been awesome. I've got two years out here now with my exemption, and it's a nice to really feel like I belong.

I'm struggling with my ball-striking a little bit right now, but I've been working on it real hard, trying to get it back, and hopefully we can. It seems like we as players are always trying to find a secret for one week, so I'm trying my best to find mine for Cog Hill. I don't know where my ball-striking went -- I think it flies home for a couple days, or a couple weeks, sometimes. Who knows where it goes? But I am just a couple good practice sessions away from being right there, and I need it.

My instructor is Todd Anderson, who's based in Sea Island, Ga., and he's coming out next week, so we'll be able to get some work done down there in Atlanta. I'm not far away, just a couple tweaks. It's more about being uncomfortable with my swing, and as fast as I pull the trigger, it's not good to be uncomfortable. He probably comes out about once every six weeks, and then when I have a week off I'll go down and see him. I still work with my college coach in Nashville every now and then when I'm home, too. It just kind of depends how my schedule works out. I don't call Todd from the road that much, though. I like kind of feeling it out myself. I know my swing well enough to know what I do wrong, so I kind of like to fiddle with stuff until I feel something working. It's difficult, needless to say, but I can't really mess up my swing too bad, so I kind of go ahead and just try to fix it on my own.

And I feel like I'm close -- definitely. My swing is a couple of really good practice sessions away from being right there where it was in Greensboro. I know it's right there, I can see it on the video. I see it's not too far off, so hopefully it's just around the corner.
