KILLENARD, Ireland -- Britain & Ireland won the second set of four-ball matches, 3-2, Friday to pull even with Continental Europe at 5-5 after the second day in the Seve Trophy.

Englishmen Justin Rose and Paul Casey -- at 13th and 22nd the two highest-ranked players in the event -- held on for a 1-up victory over Spaniards Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in the final match.

Casey made a 6-foot putt for a winning par at the last hole. They had led by six with three to play. Rose and Casey both lost their opening matches with other partners.

"Neither of us wanted to go two matches without getting a point. We're too strong for that," Casey said. "I think we're two guys who should be making points and we didn't do that the first day. I'm glad we've corrected that now."

Britain & Ireland's Bradley Dredge and Phillip Archer beat Swedes Peter Hanson and Robert Karlsson, 5 & 4, in Friday's opening match for their second win in two days.

Gregory Havret and Raphael Jacquelin of France responded by scoring their second victory, 5 & 3, over Colin Montgomerie and Mark Warren, the second defeat of the tournament for the Scottish pair.

Oliver Wilson and Simon Dyson of Britain & Ireland beat Danes Thomas Bjorn and Soren Hansen, 3 & 2, while Mikko Ilonen of Finland and Markus Brier of Austria scored a surprising second victory by one hole over Nick Dougherty and Graeme Storm.

On Saturday, there will be four best-ball matches and four greensome matches, in which both players drive and then play the best of the shots the rest of the hole. Ten singles matches will be played Sunday.
