FedExCup Climbers: Open Championship/U.S. Bank Championship

Jul. 23, 2007

The huge points payout from The Open Championship provided a huge boost to Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia, who each made large jumps in the playoff race.

Padraig Harrington

Biggest mover: Padraig Harrington
He moved: 60 spots, from 79th to 19th
Because: He won the Open Championship

Harrington did more than pick up his first major title -- the Irishman picked up a whopping 4,950 points with his playoff victory.

The win was the first time Harrington had picked up more than 1,000 points in any particular tournament, and it will be interesting to see what Harrington does with his new-found five-year exemption on the PGA TOUR.

Tim Clark

Welcome to the top 50: Tim Clark
He moved: 16 spots, from 57th to 41st
Because: He finished T2 in the John Deere Classic

Clark has every right to be disappointed with his back-to-back second-place finishes, but he's also racked up a slew of valuable points.

The 5-foot-7 South African has been in position to win on a handful of occasions in 2007, but he's sitting 41st in the FedExCup standings with unlimited momentum.

Joe Ogilvie

Welcome to the top 100: Joe Ogilvie
He moved: 52 spots, from 118th to 66th
Because: He won the U.S. Bank Championship

Ogilvie scored his first top-10 of the year with his rallying win in the U.S. Bank Championship. The event in Milwaukee, held opposite the Open Championship, paid out 2,250 points for the win.

Ogilvie is one of the best putters on TOUR (28.46 putts per round) and should score a lot more top-10s if his ballstriking is as good as it was in Milwaukee.

Chris Couch

Welcome to the field: Chris Couch
He moved: 10 spots, from 149th to 139th
Because: He finished T13 in the U.S. Bank Championship

Couch won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2006, but the big hitter from Gainesville, Fla. has struggled in 2007.

Couch was one of the few players to go low in Round 4 at Milwaukee, shooting a 67 that moved him all the way into a tie for 13th. It was just his fourth top-25 of the year, but two of those have come in his last two starts.

Sergio Garcia

Keep an eye out for: Sergio Garcia
He moved: 11 spots, from 22nd to 11th
Because: He finished second in the Open Championship

Garcia was bitterly disappointed with his playoff loss at Carnoustie, but the Spaniard racked up 2,970 points for the second-place finish.

Garcia is 11th in the standings mainly because he has performed well at big events. He was second at THE PLAYERS Championship -- also worth 2,970 points -- and he was tied for third at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship.

Clearly, Garcia elevates his game for the big events, and every tournament in the playoffs will fit that bill.
