Woods, who became a father on Monday less than 24 hours after he finished second at the U.S. Open, told the tournament on Friday afternoon that he would not be able to play.

He is going to spend time instead with his daughter, Sam Alexis, and wife Elin.

"Tiger will spend time with his wife and newborn daughter next week," said Larry Peck, the golf marketing manager for Buick Golf. " We respect and support his decision. We look forward to having Tiger with us at future Buick Open tournaments and continuing the great partnership we have with the world's No. 1 golfer. We are very happy for him and his family."

Woods is scheduled to host the inaugural AT&T National at Congressional Country Club the following week.
