Fans Congratulate Verplank

Apr. 30, 2007

Editor's Note: Scott Verplank won his fifth PGA TOUR title on Sunday at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. Here are some of the e-mails PGATOUR.com received congratulating Verplank, who will head to Hawaii for the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship in 2008.

To win a PGA TOUR event is an incredible accomplishment. To win one that means so much to you must make this win a career event. I couldn't be happier for you and your family. You were a winner before Sunday. But now, everyone knows! Best regards. Rick

Congratulations Scott. It's special to see a golfer win a tournament that means so much to him. Byron Nelson had a great influence on you and was watching over you today. Dave

Congratulations. To win an event that means so much to you makes your performance even more outstanding. May you enjoy a couple more "cool breezes" on the 18th tee before your career concludes. Well done sir. Russell, Perth, Western Australia

You make all of us OSU Cowboys proud. It is great to see you win the one you wanted. Congratulations! Chad

Great round and congrats! It is important to reach such hurdles in your lifetime such as winning in your hometown. Also, you won me $25 in my fantasy team this week. Thanks! Noah

Congratulations Scott. Byron must be very proud today! Gary

Congratulations from Germany and Belgium!! Thank you for the great moments, and all the best for the future. Kind regards. Ekhard

Many congratulations on an inspirational victory. I didn't get the chance to see it, but I was following your progress all the way on PGATOUR.com. Some moments in golf transcend the sport itself, and your triumph was certainly one of those. Best wishes. James, United Kingdom

I just wanted to let you know what a great role model you are. I have a 10-year old daughter who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just before her fifth birthday. She is doing great and just got an insulin pump within the last year. It is wonderful to be able to point to you and say, "Look, there is someone who excels at what he does who is just like you." Congrats on your win. You are very deserving. A fan out here in South Dakota.

Way to go pal! I know Byron was looking down and cheering you on. Congrats! Mark

Congratulations on winning the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. I find myself always rooting for you when you get into contention at any tournament. You're a great asset to professional golf. Keep the wins coming. Gary

That was one of the finest moments I have seen in golf. All of America is proud of you, though Texas may trump the rest of us. I want to see you at the next Ryder Cup. We need your passion. Thank you! Jeff

Congratulations on your very important victory at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. I have followed your career since you joined the TOUR but have become especially interested since my daughter was diagnosed about a year ago. Now, we both watch your play with added interest. You have become quite a role model for her, especially as she has taken to golf as "her game." We wish you many more wins and will continue to be two of your supporters. Robert

Congratulations on the win! You are an inspiration with what you have to deal with every day with your health. I was born with heart problems and know that a life-long illness cannot get you down. Thanks for giving me added inspiration by your toughness and eagerness to win. I am so happy you won today! Bryan

I'm really happy for ya Scott. I cried too. I love the history of the game, I love to play the game, and I enjoy teaching youngsters both. I've been teaching golf for almost 40 years, and when an insulin pumper can show other young diabetics that we can do anything, it's the greatest feeling in the world. I started pumping right after you, and it has made a great difference in my life. Thanks for showing me the way. I wish you only the best for the rest of the year and continued good health. An Arkansas Fan

We have always supported you. Partly because my son has diabetes, partly because of the many occasions when you have shown great sportsmanship. Absolutely delighted for you in winning this week. Dave

Congrats from one OSU fan to another. Enjoyed watching you over the years. Go Pokes! Kay, OSU Grad 1983

Congratulations on your great win at Mr. Nelson's tournament. What a wonderful story. What a deserving winner. We viewers saw your inner strength with your great play and the depth and warmth of your heart when that last putt dropped. Heartiest congratulations on four solid rounds and a victory everyone is enjoying. Bob

Congrats Mr. Verplank, one of the hard-nosed golfers around, on a great win yesterday! I witnessed your last victory back in '01 when I was a Marshall at the Canadian Open at Royal Montreal! Since that day, I have always rooted for you; and although it may have been a long 6 years, it was a most well-deserved victory! I wish you continued success for the rest of the season, and I'm looking forward to seeing you play again on the course of win No. 1 as I will be there again at the Presidents Cup come September! David, Blainville, Quebec

As the mother of a type-1 diabetic, I have been thrilled and honored to follow your career. What I witnessed on Sunday was a God-given gift to you (and to us!), and I've been on cloud nine ever since. Please know what an inspiration you are to people all over the world. Thanks for hanging tough and just playing that wonderful consistent game that you are so very good at. All the best to you and your family. Jane and Gerry, and Catherine Grace, age 6

We watched you on Sunday and were so glad and proud of you for that win. We re-watched that 2-foot par putt which wasn't any gimmie, and you made it. What a great heart. You are a true champion, and winning Bryon Nelson's tournament when you knew Bryon quite well is just a great story. Good luck the rest of the year. We need you on the Presidents Cup and next year's Ryder Cup teams. Richard
