Masters champion Johnson appears in new PGA TOUR ad PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Zach Johnson, who held off an all-star cast of golfers to capture last weekend's Masters Tournament title, is featured with former British Open winner Ben Curtis in the PGA TOUR's latest FedExCup commercial, which debuts this weekend during CBS's telecast of the Verizon Heritage (3-6 p.m. ET Saturday and Sunday). Entitled "Do Not Disturb," the 30-second spot features Curtis taking the competition off the golf course as he plays a trick on Johnson in the hotel the night before a tournament, hoping to get an edge in the FedExCup points race. "The commercial was filmed a month ago and actually was scheduled to run later this spring," said Ric Clarson, the TOUR's senior vice president, brand marketing. "But following Zach's Masters victory, we felt airing it immediately would be a huge benefit to him, the TOUR, the FedExCup points race, and certainly fun and entertaining for fans." This is the third in a series of commercials created by the TOUR and its advertising agency, GSD&M of Austin, Texas, to show in a lighthearted manner the players' competitiveness and determination to win the FedExCup competition. The ads are part of an unprecedented $40 million year-long campaign promoting the inaugural FedExCup, which culminates with the first-ever PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup in August-September. The campaign is being supported by print and online executions throughout the season. By virtue of his Masters victory (4,950 points), Johnson, who was the 2003 Nationwide Tour Player of the Year, vaulted from 68th to ninth place in the FedExCup standings with 6,498 points. Vijay Singh remains the points leader with 12,361, holding a 361-point lead over second-place Tiger Woods. |
