Fans Congratulate Wilson

Mar. 6, 2007

Editor's note: Mark Wilson won his first PGA TOUR title on Sunday at The Honda Classic. Here are some of the e-mails PGATOUR.com received congratulating Wilson, who is headed to Hawaii for the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship in 2008.

Congrats! You won with grace and determination. It's nice to see a guy who doesn't hit it 300+ yards have success. Hope to see you in contention more often - you're a pleasure to watch play golf. Stu Cox

Mark: Congratulations on your first PGA TOUR win from one of your many fans in your home state of Wisconsin. You showed a lot of courage out there, and you should be really proud of the way you handled yourself throughout the tournament, including Friday when you called the penalty on yourself. You've come a long way from finishing runner-up to Tiger in the US Junior many years ago. Your success couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Wishing you much continued success on tour and in life from a fellow Badger! Ed Murphy

Just thinking to myself you haven't had enough emails yet, so hey, what's one more? Congratulations from me and my family. You showed not only tremendous heart in fighting for your victory, but also exemplary professionalism in dealing with a difficult situation on Friday. You truly earned it. I had my wife and two-year-old watch me pace for three days I was so nervous, proving that they are very patient in putting up with me. It is just so much fun to see someone I competed against, WAY back when, win on TOUR. Best wishes for the rest of the season. Justin Hill in Madison, WI

Great win Mark. It was great to see a fellow Wisconsinite win it. I'm sitting here in Oconomowoc, with 2 feet of snow on the ground, watching you win. Keep it up. John Krueger

From your friends in Pinehurst, N.C., formerly from OGC in Wisconsin, a big congratulations on your great win. The flat stick is working magic. Best Wishes and continued good fortunes. Maggie & Mike

Mark, every once in a while someone comes on the PGA TOUR scene who displays a genuine love for the game. This inspires us amateurs. Thank you for giving that to us and congratulations on your well-deserved win at The Honda Classic. Al Kirton

"Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries." James Michner
Or the tenth! Mark, I am 49 years old and have never written anyone I do not know to congratulate them. I watched you hole three of the biggest putts I've ever seen. All after calling a penalty on yourself. That is golf and why golf is a great game. Thanks for the lessons in perseverance and integrity. No man ever deserved a victory more. Joe Kennelly

Congrats Mark! It's been a long time coming but watching you sinking some 'desperate' putts yesterday I had a feeling if you had the chance you'd pull it out. It's always good to have a hot putter and yours was definitely hotter than the other three. Too bad about Boo and his three-putt 18th. But he's a good player and will get his win. Anyways, good for you! When I was growing up there was a TV show that starred a magician named Mark Wilson - I think you had a little magic working for you this weekend. Here's hoping many more wins for you. Joe

Congrats Mark! You should take great pride in the hard work it took to get that first win. Hopefully this is just the first of many. Wisconsin is proud! Ryan Dreifke

I have just seen on the PGA TOUR website that you won The Honda Classic. They did not show the playoff live in New Zealand. I was so glad, especially after you sank those two long putts in the closing holes on Sunday. It was your destiny to win. Congratulations! P.S. May a N.Z. player fill your place at q-school. Anthony P Dell'ISola

Congrats on the win! I've been a scorer for you at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee. Look forward to seeing you in July, unless you decide to go and win the British Open. It's the only way we'd forgive you not coming to Milwaukee! Keep it up! Glen Erickson

Mark- As a UNC alum myself, I wanted to say "Congrats." More importantly, as an amateur golfer, I wanted to tell you how proud I am of the tremendous integrity you demonstrated for the very technical violation of inadvertently providing club information to a competitor. Knowing how you've struggled for the first win, it must be all the more sweet to know that you did it the right way. Good luck the rest of the year. Greg

Mark, congratulations on your well-deserved victory today. Your hard work finally paid off and I hope you will find the winner's circle a lot more often...maybe even out here at Torrey Pines. I will continue to root for you, and please send my regards to Amy and Chris as well. Your old pro-am partner, Dave Clark

Congratulations, Mark! Good guys do finish first! Keep up the great work and God bless you and Amy as you await your first child. All the best, Brian Payne

Congratulations Mark! You've come a long, long way from the days of us hoofing it through the snowy Wisconsin golf terrain. What an amazing victory! Good luck to you and your family and thanks for making Wisconsin proud! jMatt Keil

Congrats on the win! More importantly, thank you for exemplifying honor, integrity, and honesty by calling a penalty on yourself for your caddie's inadvertent information. I hope this does not get lost in the hype of your win. I personally see this as the most impressive act of heroism for you this past week and not the win. Who's to say you didn't win the tournament Friday after passing that test of obedience? Good luck the rest of the year and I will now start following your career, Dr. Henderson

Great win! I know your family is very proud of you hanging in there. Please share with your mom how excited I am for her. It's a MOM THING! Patsy Weekley

Mark, Nice going. I am a senior who loves to watch and play the game. Hawaii is neat, especially Maui. Good luck for the rest of the year. Chuck

Congratulations, Mark, from one Tar Heel to another! It certainly seemed like someone was watching out for you. I've never seen anyone make so many clutch putts down the stretch....not even Tiger. Congratulations again for your hard-fought win! Hope to see you at the Wachovia in May! Rob Campbell, UNC - Class of '81

Although I was not familiar with you until last week, I am truly a fan. Your integrity, professionalism and perseverance are an inspiration. Your ability to make the crucial putts under pressure was truly remarkable. Good luck with the baby! Mike Jacobs

Mark, I'm a big fan. I don't miss many Sundays and watching you drain those par putts yesterday was just as exciting as watching any major finish. Good luck this year and enjoy your card for the next two. Perhaps q-school is forever in the past. Kenny

Congratulations Mark! I now have another Tar Heel to pull for on the TOUR. Man, your putting was incredible! Continued success this year and in the future. Steve Miller in Chapel Hill, NC

Congratulations Mark! As a long time volunteer caddie of the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, you have been one of my favorite Wisconsin players to pull for. I'm really happy for you and your family. Great job on the win and thank you for all your MACC Fund support. Al

Congrats on your win. It is a great week to be a Tar Heel. Hope to catch up with you at a TOUR stop soon. P.S. My son is a junior on the Carolina team. Fred Palmer
