PGA TOUR Wives Association awarded for efforts PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The PGA TOUR Wives Association has been named the "Pro Sports Wives League of the Year" by Pro Sports Wives Magazine, officials have announced. The award was a part of the second annual Pro Sports Wives Day on Feb. 11, 2007. The national day of observance was awarded to the Professional Sports Wives Association, a not-for-profit organization, by the editors of Chase's Calendar of Events to recognize honorees and all wives of active and retired professional athletes, coaches, and sports executives for their support in the estimated $220-billion dollar sports entertainment industry. The PGA TOUR Wives Association began in 1988 and is dedicated to helping children and their families through various volunteer and philanthropic activities. In 2006, the Wives Association distributed more than $142,000 to 37 charities, bringing the total to almost $3 million in charitable donations since the association began. The Wives Association doesn't just stop at fundraising, though. Members often visit charities in the communities where PGA TOUR and Nationwide Tour events are held and do everything from reading to children to helping clean cabinets and stocking shelves. "We are honored to receive the 2006 Pro Sports Wives League of the Year award," said Dory Faxon, president of the Wives Association. "The Wives Association, along with the TOUR players, believe there is no greater cause than giving back to the communities in which PGA TOUR and Nationwide Tour events are held. We appreciate the recognition of our charitable efforts and we applaud other wives throughout the industry for their continued efforts to give back as well." |
