Fujikawa follows Sony moment by winning Hawaii Pearl Open HONOLULU (AP) -- A month after becoming the youngest player in 50 years to make the cut at a PGA TOUR event, 16-year-old Tadd Fujikawa shot a 4-under 68 on Sunday to win the 28th Hawaii Pearl Open at Oahu's Pearl Country Club. Fujikawa birdied two of the final three holes to finish the 54-hole tournament at 11-under 205. Hawaii professional Greg Meyer (67), a four-time Pearl Open champion, was second in the prestigious event but took home the first-place check because Fujikawa is still am amateur. Meyer, a four-time Pearl Open champion, collected the first-place check of $12,000 because Fujikawa is an amateur. Japanese professionals Azuma Yano and Yoshinobu Tsukada tied for third at 8 under. Fujikawa started the day in fourth place after rounds of 69 and 68. Fujikawa, who turned 16 immediately after the Sony Open in Hawaii, earned his way into the Sony Open last month by shooting a 67 to capture the lone amateur spot at the Aloha PGA Section qualifying tournament, then captivated the galleries by not only making the cut but heading into the final round tied for eighth before settling into a tie for 20th-place finish.
