TOUR players make their Super Bowl picks

Jan. 31, 2007

Barring a playoff, the winner of the FBR Open will be crowned a few minutes before Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, and there's more than a passing interest in the game among the PGA TOUR pros gathered at the TPC Scottsdale this week. PGA TOUR media official Joe Chemycz took an informal poll, and this is what he learned:

Stewart Cink
Pick: Indianapolis
I like Peyton Manning and I am not as big a fan of the Bears.
Joe Ogilvie
Pick: Chicago
I'm taking the Bears because everyone else is picking the Colts. I'm a contrarian.
Ken Duke
Pick: Indianapolis
It's their time.
Rich Barcelo
Pick: Indianapolis
I'm rooting for the Bears but I think the Colts will win by 10 or so. I like Chicago and they haven't been in it for a while. I know Indy hasn't been there either. I just want to see a good game and I'm pulling for the underdog.
Jason Dufner
Pick: Indianapolis
I think they're due. Its Peyton's time. Its Dungy's time. Rex Grossman is too unpredictable.
Jeff Quinney
Pick: Indianapolis
You can't give Peyton Manning two weeks to prepare and look at video and break it down. The Colts' defense definitely has played better in the playoffs. They took a lot of heat during the regular season but theyre getting it done.
John Daly
Pick: Indianapolis
I think its Peyton Manning's time to win one. That offense is awfully danged good.
J.J. Henry
Pick: Indianapolis
I like Peyton Manning. I'm a big fan of his. With all the success the Colts have had the past few years, it would be nice to see Peyton hold that trophy up come Sunday. They've been at the top the past few years, almost going undefeated and all. This year they kind of flew under the radar. It's kind of like winning a golf tournament - you put yourself in position and all of a sudden, boom, you're there.
Davis Love III
Pick: Indianapolis
I'm pulling for Peyton. I think I might be betting with my heart and not my head.
Briny Baird
Pick: Indianapolis
The Colts will win because of Peyton Manning. He will find a way to win the game. He's the reason why they'll win.
Cameron Beckman
Pick: Indianapolis
The Colts will win by four. I think it'll be a tight game and Manning will find a way to win it in the end.
Eric Axley (University of Tennessee grad)
Pick: Indianapolis
Payback. Peyton versus Grossman, four years, Tennessee versus Florida. I was disappointed for four years while he was there against Grossman. It's time for flip-flop. It's Peyton's time to beat him.
Brad Faxon
Pick: Indianapolis
For some reason they've been able to get tougher since mid-season. The defense has come together and Peyton Manning is ready. Peyton is the sentimental favorite, unless you're from Chicago. I dont think they'll be denied. I saw what they did to New England and how they handled that one. I don't think Chicago will beat the Colts the way Indy is playing right now.
Brett Quigley
Pick: Indianapolis
I thought they canceled the Super Bowl if the Patriots aren't in it! I think the Colts will win because it's Peytons turn. Its like it's almost scripted for him. It's kind of like it was when Elway made it with the Broncos after all those years.
Kevin Sutherland
Pick: Indianapolis
The Colts will win because of Peyton Manning. I just like watching him play. I hope he wins one finally.
Jason Bohn
Pick: Chicago
I think the defense will get it done. I want the city of Chicago to go bananas! I also have feelings for Indy because Peyton Manning played in the SEC and he deserves a ring.
Charles Howell III
Pick: Indianapolis
I'll take the Colts to win it 21-17. Indianapolis is favored and the favorite has won the game 13 of the past 17 games. Plus, Peyton Manning is a stud.
Charley Hoffman
Pick: Indianapolis
It's Peyton Manning's time.
Todd Hamilton
Pick: Chicago
I grew up in Illinois and I always rooted for them.
Bo Van Pelt
Pick: Indianapolis
The Colts will win by 20. They've played in that stadium before. Weather wont be a factor. I think Peyton Manning will have a good game and the offense will go nuts.
Parker McLachlin
Pick: Indianapolis
I was for the Bears a long time ago, but I think the Colts will win it. As much as they've accomplished the past few years, I think it's their turn. I think it'll be a high-scoring game and the Colts will get it done. I'll take Indy, 34-18.
Steve Flesch
Pick: Indianapolis
Only because I can't root for a former Gator (Rex Grossman).
David Toms
Pick: Indianapolis
I have to go with the Colts because of my LSU guys - Joseph Addai and "Booger" McFarland. There's no way I can root for (Rex) Grossman because he's a Gator.
Justin Leonard
Pick: Indianapolis
I think the Colts will win because of Peyton Manning. He's turned into a pretty good actor, too!
Robert Garrigus
Pick: Chicago
I think the Bears' defense will shut them down. At the end, I think our kicker, Robbie Gould, will kick a field goal to win it. Bears win, 27-24.
Bill Haas
Pick: Chicago
The Bears will win because of their defense. Defense wins championships.
Jeff Sluman
Pick: Chicago
The Bears will control the clock. Theyll run, run, run, run the ball inside. Indy is a wonderful team, but just how wonderful are they outside of that dome?
George McNeill
Pick: Indianapolis
Ill pick the Colts by 14. Obviously Chicago's defense is incredible and Indy's defense may not quite as good, they've found ways to overcome it all year. I think Peyton will get untracked offensively. Indy's defense isnt that bad. Plus, Rex Grossman hasn't really proven himself. He's a bit inconsistent.
Jeff Gove
Pick: Chicago
I'll take the Bears because they beat my Seahawks, so that means they must be the best team.
Chris Couch
Pick: Chicago
I'll take the Bears because they have a Gator at quarterback. Although I really like Peyton Manning, I have to go with the Gator. I think Chicago's defense will win it for them.
Aaron Baddeley
Pick: Indianapolis
I think the Colts will win because Peyton Manning will step it up for the big game.
